PROVIDENCE ASSOCIATES
Do you know?
Emilie Tavernier-Gamelin, a lay woman for the greater part of her life, was married and had three children. As a young woman, she belonged to the Ladies of Charity and, at the age of 43, she founded the religious community of the Sisters of Providence. As a Sister of Providence, she continued to make the Ladies of Charity an important part of the Providence Mission.
Today, the history of our community resonates more and more with lay persons who recognize in themselves and in their experience the grace of the same Providence Charism. There are more than 1000 Providence Associates across the world.
Who are the Providence Associates?
The Providence Associates are those lay persons who wish to share in the Providence mission and spirituality. They are women and men for whom the values of the Gospel are a principal force in their lives and who, after a period of orientation and evaluation, formally express their desire to share in the spirituality of Providence and to collaborate in the Providence mission
The Providence Associates are motivated by the same spirit and the same Charism as the Sisters of Providence; i.e., the gift of the manifestation of the Providence of God and the compassion of Our Mother of Sorrows. They demonstrate this in their service of the poor and in their commitment to compassionate love as they make the love of God known by the example of their lives.
